When my mom texted me that “Laundry is the ugh of life,” it resonated with my soul. I’ve taken to re-handlettering this quote every few years to track my progress.

The night before christmas…

The only creature stirring was me smudged with india ink and my oblique pen frantically flying to create this design to gift my mom for Christmas.

Once the text was done, I aptly used the dirty water from cleaning my nib to fill in the grungy sock wreath. It’s been hanging outside our laundry room ever since.

Vector baby, hurry down the chimney tonight.

On December 14, 2018, I completed my first redo of this project. This time, it was done entirely using Adobe Illustrator. During this process, my mastery of straight beziers and the width tool increased exponentially along with an amount of patience I didn’t even know I possessed.

Hangin’ round the mistle(toe).

Armed with Ian Bernard’s letter building grids and my sister’s stolen basketball sock to act as a model, I completed the third rendition in Adobe Photoshop exactly one year later. Keeping with the sock wreath theme, I rolled the socks to look like roses upon first glance until it’s realized that the “leaves” are actually socks.

Once finished, my now single-socked sister asked to hang this one outside the laundry room instead.
